About Meleigha

Where do I begin!
Meleigha began showing at the age of 9. She began with showing a Golden Retriever owned by Tom and Cathy Griffin named
Ginger. Her first year of showing was a learning experience to say the least. Every time she stepped in to the ring she excelled.
Hal Davis along with Tom and Cathy were the first of her mentors. Hal taught her so much. Not just the technical things, but
the mental things. He helped her to stay calm and to learn to let things roll off her back. As a seasoned handler, breeder, and
former UKC judge, he taught her many tricks of the trade. To this day he continues to take her under his wing and guide her,
and for that I will always be grateful. Laurie Davis later began to mentor Meleigha with her Toy Fox Terriers. Laurie has spent
countless hours with her teaching her everything from breed standards, breeding, diseases, whelping, and behavior of dogs. As
a professional dog trainer, she has taught Meleigha how to train a dog and how to correct behavior issues.

Many others along the way have guided or mentored Meleigha including Lori Chapek-Carleton of SFX Samoyeds. Meleigha has
handled several of Lori's dogs and has won several Best In Shows and Reserve Best in Shows. Lori even allowed Meleigha to
have the honor of handling Poppy at the 2006 Premier in Top Ten and won Best of Breed. Lori's gentle calm approach has
helped Meleigha to take it all in stride. Meleigha always looks forward to showing her Samoyeds and helps Lori organize all her
handlers when she brings a large brood.

As in any sport, growth and change occurs. Meleigha has now begun showing heavily in AKC thanks to Beth Snedegar. Beth
was instrumental in getting Meleigha involved in AKC and has made every effort to help her and guide her. Meleigha shows
several of Beth's Parson Russell Terriers and Tassle is Meleigha's primary Juniors dog. Her and Tassle have a very special bond.
We really love that little girl. AKC has been an amazing and challenging experience for Meleigha. She has done very well, so
well in fact that she has been invited to the 2011 Eukanuba National Championship for Junior Showmanship. What an
amazing accomplishment!

She has handled dogs from every group and looks flawless doing it, no matter what the breed is. It is an honor when owners
approach her and ask her to handle their dog. It shows me that they have confidence and trust in her which is a huge honor to
us. She has a gift that no one can explain and the standing joke ringside is "You can give that girl an elephant and she would
win at a dog show!" She never sits still at shows and if she isn't in the ring you will usually find her helping the stewards, the
secretary, making friends, or of course taking care of the dogs. We have allowed her every opportunity in this world since it is
so fulfilling from so many different angles. Many lessons are learned both positive and negative that could never be duplicated
in a home setting. It has allowed her to grow in ways I could have never dreamed. She makes many sacrifices to participate in
dog shows including having to make choices at times between conflicting activities. We are so proud of her. We see her going
far and will encourage her every step of the way.
